Sampson Loses His Locks

Had the pandemic never happened, we would never have known that Chase has magical hair that grows into full-on ringlets. We just never would have known that. But it did happen and Chase's hair did become quite the thing. He got a lot of attention for it - we almost wondered if he would struggle to serve a mission because he'd have to cut it. In fact, when he was first wanting to submit his mission papers last fall he really did not want to cut his hair at all, and just pulled it back into a pony for the submission photo. But we spent the spring being in communication with our new stake president who happens to be a dear friend of ours. He really got the ball rolling and told Chase he could submit his papers again in early June, but that he'd need a haircut. Without hesitation, only nervous is-this-really-happening excitement, we scheduled an appointment. But first came some photos to capture the memory of those ringlets.

We picked a barbershop down town where they not only cut your hair but serve up root beers and cream sodas. I sat, sipping, watching in shock as a huge mass of hair piled up on the floor and Chase was transformed into someone resembling a missionary.

Check him out! He's so handsome.

It was a little sad actually but also just so exciting and refreshing. Chase felt great, and was maybe even a little relieved. Curl care is a pain in the rump.

We went home, tried out some missionary photos, had him shave, and tried again. What a crazy change and what an exciting time! The Stake President resubmitted his missionary papers that very day.

Gulp.

May I again say how very proud of Chase we are. He grew a lot over the months that he had to wait. He's so fun and pleasant to be around, and I'm so excited about the adventures that are ahead for him.
