Here's the thing. I have a man-child now. I guess he's been a man for a long time but this year felt particularly true as I didn't really see my boy on his birthday much. For one thing, I have this weird thing now called "a job." And I was working on his birthday. Also he spent the day with friends so even if Troy and I had been home we still wouldn't have seen him, which is as it should be. He's fresh home from a mission and needing to be with his buddies. Who wants to spend their 22nd birthday hanging out with their parents? I did try to play Taylor Swift's song about feeling 22 for him but I was, in the words of Cher Horowitz, Brutally Rebuffed. (That's a quote from Clueless. Sorry, random, couldn't help myself.)
Also a little weird and sad....I pretty much have zero photos. The celebrations we had were held on Sunday night, the night before his birthday. We invited his surrogate family (the Moores) over for cake and various other treats. I have one photo. And Chase isn't in it. I do have a video, so that's something! I'll have to see if Chase took any photos on his actual birthday. We got him up early so he could eat birthday biscuits and gravy with his family before Troy and I left for work, and we gave him some new airpods and some poseable action figures. He still just loves figs, which I think is pretty adorable.
The Chase-free photo:
This is of Ethan, one of his life-long best friends, so we approve. But it's funny I didn't get one of Chase.
Here's us singing to him:
It's exactly three seconds long because I was only filming to use it on my One-Second-a-Day video compilation. And...that's it.
Well, wishing Chase a very happy birthday. Having him home has been so wonderful. He's happy, he's helpful, he's thoughtful. I can't wait to see what comes next in life for him.
